Event

Trancalmate 2025

Trancalmate is a mix of the Spanish words calmate (relax) and tranquillo (calm). The perfect name of a yoga & surf trip which we co-organize and partly fund in Galicia (Northwest Spain) in September every year.  Trancalmate is carefully designed for women with breast cancer and/or the genetic mutation BRCA I and II.

Having undergone aggressive treatment and even surgery, breast cancer patients face physical and mental difficulties, often leaving them with an uncertain feeling about their body and strength. The idea of Trancalmate is to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of the participants through surfing and yoga. Plus a lot of fun and Schabernack of course.

Breastcancer Recovery Through Surfing

Mastering the waves, being immersed in the ocean and feeling it’s energy, surfing has proven to be of great therapeutical use. We can only think one thought at the time. In the ocean, everything revolves around the water, leaving pain, anxiety and worries apart and replacing those negative feelings with joy, confidence and happiness, caused by the emission of adrenaline in our body. There is nothing that can replace the feeling of surfing a wave –  it’s simply mesmerizing.

Healing Through Yoga & Surfing

Yoga is more than just movement; it’s a practice that connects us with our bodies through mindfulness and breath. It creates a deeper understanding and acceptance of our physical and mental state while teaching us how to access and navigate our emotions through controlled breathing. Yoga instructor Anna will gently guide our participants through flows and movements.

Six incredible women, each with her own journey, arrive at our home base on the stunning northwest coast of Galicia for a transformative week of ocean, movement, and healing. Surfing, a sport that challenges limits, also allows for redefining them—something our participants experience firsthand. Each woman progresses at her own pace and ability, yet all share remarkable strength and determination.

Guided in the water by experienced surf coaches Angie and Ramon, supported on land by compassionate yoga instructor Anna, and nourished by the culinary expertise of chef Ray, the women hop on on a personal and empowering experience.

The impact of Trancalmate is visible from day one and lasts long beyond the retreat—many past participants continue to meet regularly. We witness struggles: fears, traumas, and physical challenges. But even more, we see transformation. Confidence in their bodies returns. Self-belief resurfaces. Laughter fills the air. Joy takes over. Friendships form. The list of positive effects is endless.

This epic camp is led by:

  • Anna Götz, a yoga specialist for breast cancer patients
  • Rahel Klein, journalist and passionate storyteller as our private chef
  • Angie Ringleb, experienced in adaptive surf coaching
  • Ramon Alvarez, local surf coach providing in-depth regional knowledge

Together, they create an empowering space where women can reclaim their strength, find healing in the waves, and embrace life to the fullest. Would you like to experience Trancalmate with us?

Trancalmate Vol. 4

Having made such a difference in the life of the past participants during the past three years, we have decided to run Trancalmate Vol. 4 in 2025. We truly believe in the positive impact of surfing and would like to give more women affected by breast cancer and/or BRCA I and II, the chance to heal through surfing & yoga.

Trancalmate Vol. 4 will be in September 2025, again in Galicia. Included in the camp is accommodation, surf & yoga classes, delicious breakfast & dinner, all transport to/from Santiago de Compostela, a goodie bag and some surprises. If you are interested in joining or want more info, please get in touch with us.

For many women facing breast cancer, the emotional and financial burdens are significant. Treatment costs, loss of income, and the need for continuous care can strain resources. Being aware of  the struggles that come with breastcancer, we try to keep the camp costs as low as possible. We also offer discounts / assumption of costs for women with low financial means, in order to make this camp accessible for everyone.
